Introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
An introduction to the powerful protocol has been changing lives of patients at the Stress Reduction Clinic at UMass and now around the world since the late 1970s. How can we manage stress by using our own bodies? Learn the correlation between wellbeing, mindfulness, and attention. This workshop will introduce tools like mindful movement and meditation to those who are brand new. It is also the introductory workshop for a 12-week series of MBSR workshops for organizations that want a research-based protocol to create lasting stress resilience among small teams.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workshop Series
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an evidence-based program developed in the 1980s and has been studied with diverse populations to bring about a sense of peace, joy, and positivity in the face of major life changes and challenges. This is an intensive class that requires 2 hours each week for 8 weeks and a 4-hour retreat, for a total of 20 hours of live instruction time. Also participants are required to do a daily meditation. Participants will shift the way they relate to stress, review their own perceptions, gain control over actions, find choice in their mindset, all among a supportive group to discuss insights. Meditation, yoga postures, reflection exercises, and coping strategies are all taught by certified instructors. This research-based method of attention training changes the structure and function of the brain when practiced daily, shifting the atmosphere in the workplaces that invite MBSR in. There is a desperate need to manage the psychological stress in today’s world and this class covers it all! No experience in mindfulness, yoga, or meditation necessary! A deep dive course with a binder outlining each week’s topics, homework, and independent reading.
15 Minute Stress Skills Break
During a regular staff meeting, an Inward Office virtual instructor leads a 15-minute stress relief break. The topic of the 15-minute sessions would be discussed on a brief call with the team leader. Techniques could include: meditation, mindfulness, yoga-based stretching and isometric strengthening exercises, tennis ball muscle release, daily reflections and discussion on incorporating these techniques into a workday. The short workshops aim to improve awareness of employees’ stress set points, self-awareness, meta-cognition, mind/body connection, and awareness of the body. This workshop can be the beginning of talking about stress at work in a productive way, with skills training and recognition of the prevalence of stress at work. This series is scheduled for a minimum of 4 consecutive weeks.
Mindfulness @ Work
A completely customized program. Topics in the past have included Mindfulness for the Adaptable Leader, Mindful Communication, Mindfulness for Stress Management, Resilience. This class is co-created with a manager, wellness coordinator to meet the needs of the group. An interview in advance is required.
Absent employees, physical ailments, distracting home lives, meeting overscheduling, working without sufficient resources, difficult superiors, inefficient communication can take a toll on workforce efficiency. We may have employees trained on improving workflow, but what training do your employees have on how to think and focus at work? By training the attention through mindfulness, employees can better prioritize tasks, deal with challenging interpersonal relationships, and mentally change their relationship to stressors.
Mindfulness techniques can expand our inner resilience to unexpected events. We begin to respond, rather than react to problems. With hands-on reflective techniques, these skills are applicable to all workplaces and types of employees. It is recommended to get together a group of similar employees: a group of managers, or an individual department to make the curriculum applicable to their shared work life.
Mindful Communication
What would it be like to engage in a conversation built on presence and understanding with that person who always gets under your skin? Imagine sitting down with them, sharing a mutual respect of each other’s views and leaving with a better sense of understanding each other born of compassion. This workshop uses empathetic listening and communication tools from Non-Violent Communication and mindfulness.
Mindfulness for Busy Professionals
How do we integrate mindfulness into our day when we don’t have an extra hour per day for a personal practice? Mindfulness can be a formal or informal practice that can fit in where you have time. How can a mindfulness practice enhance performance at work and at life? We will do mindfulness exercises together and reflect on its integration during the day.
Mindfulness for Adaptive Leadership
This workshop is designed for managers and leaders seeking to thrive in a dynamic, uncertain world. Learn essential mindfulness tools, including understanding how we perceive, adaptive versus automatic thinking, avoidance and attachment, and embracing curiosity. Enhance your resilience, decision-making, and adaptability in the face of organizational disruptions and a VUCA environment.
